January 2011
There are only 9 friends of mine on Facebook Chat right now and one of them is my former high school history teacher, who got the desire to IM me and tell me that he was surprised I wasn’t spending New Year’s Eve with Coldplay in Vegas. It’s not as creepy as it sounds—teacher/student relationships in my high school were more akin to friends rather than the usual way things...

I feel like there is a whole host of relevant things I should be watching/listening to/reading pertaining to the new year just because I’m mildly traditional and superstitious (for lack of a better word), but I’m so tired that I plan to just go to bed shortly after midnight hits. I did go to bed at like 5AM yesterday and woke up at 9AM today, and I had a drank with dinner tonight, but...

I texted that to my mom last night when she texted me she had just taken bread out of the oven, and she texted back “whatchu talkin’ ‘bout, Willis?”

I feel like years are long periods of time to assign “good” or “bad” labels to. Certain aspects of my 2010 were sucky, namely my whole spring semester when I overloaded with classes and hated them all, and certain aspects of 2010 were better than any other year on record, such as getting to travel so much and getting some pretty great music-related opportunities. So I...

I have pizza, cider, and the original Star Wars...
But I went out last night because no one was free tonight, so who knows if I’ll even make it to midnight. It’s 7:10 and I’m exhausted.  I’d also really like to be in Vegas watching Jay-Z and Coldplay at the Cosmopolitan. Even if I’ve seen them perform together before and even if it’s utter BS that Gwyneth and Beyonce are going to be performing with them like...

I just chased my brother around the upstairs of our house because he struck up another Coldplay conversation and referred to Guy as “Patrice” the entire time. And then he got me doing it.  Bingford, Schmotz, Patrice, and he dubbed Chris “Lyle.” Those names sound like a sleazy MP, a fat Jewish deli owner, a male stripper, and the kid covered in boogers that eats paste in...

racingsunbeams asked: "it’s just because Chris has become somewhat more ballsy and direct with his lyrics"

I was actually thinking the same. I feel like after all these years ~in the biz~ he's started to become more blunt about his messages rather than more hidden and wanting to hide it.

racingsunbeams asked: hmm.. prep school was so long ago. Do you think his Christian beliefs were strengthened somehow? Because I don't see anything really referencing religion til VLV, where religion is pretty prevalent. Have you noticed the religious messages in the album overall? I mean, some of them are pretty obvious but if you look into the lyrics further they're pretty intense.

“[At prep school] Martin’s spirituality also took a sharp turn. He was raised believing in a Christian God—not the same God, he’s quick to point out, as ‘those crazy American fundamentalists’ like George W. Bush—and at an early age he felt the collective power of singing in church. ‘Everybody singing together is the best feeling in the world,’...

Who writes the lyrics for the Coldplay? I think it's Chris, but IDK if the other members contribute at all. Anyways, the Viva La Vida album has always been heavily spiritual to me, and almost Christian. Is Chris a very religious person? There are so many references to god and faith and belief (even saints) that I feel like there's a heavier message behind the album....

Yeah, I never should have said I wasn’t a big fangirl, because the second I did, I started disproving it left and right in the span of hours.  I just had a really squee-ey reaction to the seemingly fairly-solid rumor that there’s going to be a new Coldplay baby not too far in the future. I am such a freaking girl.

My mom just demanded to know why Vampire Weekend’s “Holiday” and Albert Hammond Jr’s “Holiday” weren’t on my Christmas playlist.  I tried to explain that they both happen to be about beaches and summer and a “holiday” in the British sense of the word, meaning “vacation,” rather than THE holidays to little avail. She was just trying...

So this conversation just happened.
*Listening to the version of "Glass of Water" featuring Albert in my room*
*Brother walks in*
EVAN: What concert is this from?
ME: Antwerp in 2008. It's with Albert on.
EVAN: Who?
ME: Albert. From The Strokes.
EVAN: What happened to Bingford?
ME: Who?
EVAN: Bingford. Ya know, the drummer. Will Bingford.
ME: HIS NAME IS FUCKING WILL CHAMPION.
EVAN: Yeah. Well what happened to him that they needed another drummer?
ME: ALBERT IS THE FUCKING GUITARIST FOR THE STROKES.
EVAN: Oh. Well what happened to Schmotz?
ME: GET OUT OF HERE.
EVAN: Ya know, Jonny Schmotz, the one with the hat.
ME: YOU ARE DISOWNED.
He does this just to piss me off. Bingford and Schmotz? And he knows very well that Albert plays guitar.
