My former boss just shared a Ron Paul campaign to “end the TSA” on Facebook because of the whole Rand Paul detention thing. According to the image, the campaign has raised over $46,000. My boss’s tagline about it was “Don’t wait til it affects you. Take action. Educate, inform, spread.” YEAH, LET’S END THE TSA AND SEE HOW WELL THAT WORKS OUT FOR EVERYONE. AND LET’S NOT PUT $46,000 TOWARDS THINGS LIKE CANCER RESEARCH OR HOMELESSNESS PROGRAMS OR A MILLION OTHER THINGS THAT ACTUALLY NEED FUNDING AND WILL ACTUALLY BENEFIT PEOPLE. It doesn’t compute to me that out there, there are people willing to donate their extra cash to ending the TSA over other issues, like eradicating illness or supplying food to people in need etc.

I want to unfriend him so badly, but I also don’t want to lose him as a reference for future jobs or anything, because that was a major job etc etc. But I actually feel the urge to vomit or choke someone or something. And this, my friends, is one of the reasons I stopped wanting to pursue politics at a higher level. I used to be really into it, but then I realized I spent most of my time wanting to go around wanting to kick people in the shins and scream about how disgusting I found some peoples’ ideas about everything. I didn’t like spending my time going around talking about how repulsive I found half the population’s ideas and morals. I still follow politics closely and care deeply about issues, but I’ve had to divorce myself from being so emotionally invested in it because it turned me into a supremely negative person. There’s always a point when I just turn off the TV or navigate away from news sites now to stop myself reaching a boiling point. At least when people are obnoxious about music I don’t find them wholly repulsive and adjust my whole view of them as a person.
