Apparently people come into the store pretty frequently asking how the hell they can get their university email accounts onto their iPhones in the mail app. Depending on the university and where they host their email, sometimes that’s actually impossible because of security policies at various colleges and all that.
But I was trying to think today what I did to solve that problem when I was at university (in the US, mostly, so my first year or so—towards the end I just set up a forwarding system so my uni email went into my personal email which went to my phone/iPod, but my first college wouldn’t even allow us to do THAT). I realized that this wasn’t really even an ISSUE when I started college because…back then, not that many people had iPhones or even really Blackberrys. They were invented and they existed, especially Blackberrys (iPhones came out that year), but most people didn’t live on them like they do now, and not that many people my age had them, most people still had boring flip phones (this is when full QWERTY keyboards on phones were cutting edge as well).
I say “back then” like it was so long ago, but it was actually only five years ago. My first job out of university is learning about and selling things that were barely even invented when I started university, and which certainly didn’t exist when I graduated high school, like iPads.
IDK bro, I just like consumer technology and how fast we’re incorporating it into our daily lives.
