Also, that picture of Fab and Matt was from one of the shows I was at and Guy tweeted it while we were queueing and someone that had an iPhone at that point showed it to me and I SCREAMED because that meant Fab was going to be at the same show
In the course of the same conversation with Will about The Strokes, which was really very short, it was like a week after Julian and Nikolai tweeted that they just finished recording Angles, and when I was talking to him he was like “they better be coming out with something soon, man” and I was like “ON TWITTER THEY JUST SAID THEY’RE DONE WITH IT, IT SHOULD BE OUT SOON, AHH” which he was not aware of and seemed excited by.
It felt significant to me that I was able to directly inform a member of one of my favorite bands about progress from my other favorite band that he didn’t know about, and these are the things in my life that I count as important and significant because I am the coolest person I know.

I was just on Ezra’s Twitter to show my mom something random from his feed and I noticed for the first time that his background is an old 1980/90s ad for the clothing designer Alexander Julian.
Alexander Julian is my high school best friend’s father and I grew up partying at his house.
- Q: Slowly but surely, you’ve been getting more popular and successful with every album. How are you dealing with the approach of fame?
- MATT BERNINGER: You mean, with not turning into rich a–holes? (Laughs) I don’t think we’ve changed that much. I know I’ve gotten grumpier. But that’s just from spending so much time on a bus with a bunch of grown men. Everybody gets a little grumpy. But when we started the band I was already 30, so I never fell into any of the traps or pitfalls that can happen to young people when they’re in a successful rock band. We’ve done shows with The Strokes and seen the crazy world that surrounds them. It’s great and exciting — your fantasy of what an awesome rock band is. But we’ve always felt like we never will be that big, you know. And that’s OK. I know I’m not going to be an astronaut either.
